CARING FOR COUNTRY

The Centre, Beaudesert.2017

The works shown in this exhibition are based on the premise that trees are the Earth’s Lungs, and if we as a species concentrate on planting and nurturing forests the world would conceivably be a much better and healthier place for all creatures.

I am aware that this is but one aspect of healing and caring for country that is sorely needed, but as in any body the lungs are of paramount importance to function as a whole. If they are in poor health, the body suffocates…

I am also aware that there are many groups and organisations which are currently focussing on this aspect of global healing and as a dedicated tree planter I applaud it and feel hopeful that more people are becoming mindful of the importance of trees as in the case of China, whole skyscapers covered in vertical gardens…..

Statement:

The Importance of Wetlands:

The World Wide Fund for Nature reiterates that Wetlands are one of the most undervalued ecosystems in providing a range of vital services. They provide food, filter water, and offer a unique habitat for more than 40% of all the world’s species.

1. “Regrowth”

When conditions are right, regrowth of forests can happen without planting trees, through the spontaneous process of natural regeneration, usually requiring only protection so existing seed banks can grow.

Many species of trees have seeds that will wait for years until the perfect conditions arise.
